Dear Partners:

As you may know, the Department of Buildings is rolling out OB NOW, an interactive, web-based portal that will enable you to do all business with DOB online. DOB NOW demonstrates the Agency’s commitment to greater transparency and better customer service.

I am pleased to announce that we have reached a key milestone in this new program. The DOB NOW Public Portal launched on December 12th. In addition, standpipe job filings were made available in DOB NOW: Build on January 17th. This adds to functionality already available in DOB NOW: Build for plumbing and sprinkler job filings and DOB NOW: Safety for façade compliance filings and requests. Further details on these efforts are below.

DOB NOW Public Portal

The DOB NOW Public Portal is an interactive, user-friendly webpage that will enable you to review job filings and building information online.  The DOB NOW Public Portal will eventually replace BIS once DOB NOW is fully launched; until then, you will need to use both BIS and the Public Portal to view all filings for a building. Access the Public Portal and check out the FAQs available online in DOB NOW:Build and DOB NOW: Safety.

DOB NOW: Build for Standpipes

Applicants are now able to submit standpipe job filings in DOB NOW: Build.  Later this spring, supporting document functionality and waiver or deferral requests for supporting documents will be made available in DOB NOW: Build for standpipes, as well.

These changes are designed to save you time and give you easy access to the information you need.  In addition, we expect the program to:

  • Increase usage of virtual plan reviews;
  • Enable electronic work permits;
  • Improve visibility of application information; and
  • Expand standardized objections.

DOB NOW is in its early stages and our team welcomes your feedback. We want to hear from you about your experience using the Public Portal and DOB NOW: Build release for standpipe and other related job filings. If you have any questions or comments, please emaildobnowsupport@buildings.nyc.gov.

Sincerely,
Rick D. Chandler, P.E.
